Bookworm tagged me with a film meme. Fortunately, I keep a list of favorite movies handy for whenever Earth obstructs my view of Venus and I can't find my Illudium Q-36 Explosive Space Modulator.
Total number of films I own on DVD and video: about 40, most of them kid pics.
Last film I bought: The Incredibles
Last film I watched: Star Wars VI (well, okay, III): Revenge of the Sith
Five films that I watch a lot or that mean a lot to me (in no particular order):
1) The Princess Bride (1987): There's a lot of heart behind the humor, and like Peter Falk's character says, the story has a bit of everything, plus a Mark Knopfler soundtrack and a fine script by William Goldman.
2) Gods and Generals (2003): This handsome film didn't do as well at the box office as it should have, but it's an intelligent Civil War epic that never loses the courage of its convictions or paints Southerners as Foghorn Leghorn-type buffoons.
3) Sense and Sensibility (1995): Emma Thompson does Jane Austen. A beauteous match indeed.
4) The Bear (1988): A little miracle of a film where the animals upstage the humans. It beats Born Free (1966) by a hair just because in that film, Elsa the lioness couldn't quite upstage sun-kissed actress Virginia McKenna. It beats The Black Stallion (1979) and Seabiscuit (2003) because bears are tougher to film than horses are.
5) The Enforcer (1976): Clint Eastwood as Inspector "Dirty" Harry Callahan. A guilty pleasure, with Tyne Daley playing the sidekick and more than its share of bon mots.
Just missed the cut (not part of the original question series, but worthwhile and fun): Chicken Run (2000); Shadowlands (1993); Planes, Trains, and Automobiles (1987); Trading Places (1983); Glory (1989)
Now I have to think of five people to tag...
How about Loy M. Gary B., Julie D., Orrin J., and Joel M?

Oh, I'd forgotten about Shadowlands! An excellent movie! I think I'll have to rent it soon...
I'll watch movies with you any time.
Ok, I'll get busy thinking about this ...
