I have my doubts, and they're playing now in another essay at American Spectator Online.
Part of the problem rests with politicians, of course, but the other part rests with the media, which continues its embarrassing streak of unthinking credulity (more on that from Michelle Malkin and company, as well as in this depressingly long list compiled by Randall Hoven, which is excellent but doesn't even mention some of the media mistakes I highlighted back in 2004).

Loved the column, Patrick. This issue is second only to the expectation that a president should "take care" of us on my list of hopelessly inane and irrelevant job qualifications for the Chief Executive.
